Since forming in 2006, ION Media Networks has seen significant progress in each of its key business areas:
General Entertainment Television
- In 2008, the company’s flagship network rebranded as ION Television, a general entertainment destination for Adults 25–54
- Expanded ION Television’s reach to 260 million Americans in 100 million U.S. households
- Doubled viewership, climbing from nowhere into the top 15 in U.S. cable ratings in less than 3 years, a growth rate unprecedented in U.S. television history
- Established broad entertainment network in record time, including its first original series “Flashpoint”
Special Interest Television
- ION pioneered the use of DTV technology to bring added choices to specific audiences, becoming the first company to launch two 24/7 DTV channels: Qubo and ION Life
- Qubo is the only 24/7 over-the-air network for young children in the U.S.
- ION Life is a 24/7 network focusing on active lifestyles
- Recently, ION partnered with Penske Media Corp. (PMC) to launch ENTV, a multi-platform TV and online brand, focused on delivering Hollywood news for pop culture fans
Mobile Television
- ION co-founded the industry initiative to develop Mobile DTV technology in record time
- ION is a founding member of Mobile Content Venture (MCV), along with NBCUniversal, Fox and leading broadcast station groups, which aims to commercialize Mobile DTV through the Dyle™ mobile TV service
